4 Reasons You Should Try Free PR Training Right Now
The pandemic has made it harder to connect with new customers. There’s no foot traffic, happy hours, or even as much word-of-mouth as there used to be prior to 2020. People are staying at home and sticking to their bubbles and it’s simply harder to get the word out there.
Our options to reach new audiences are mostly limited to online channels. You can send your audience an email, update your followers on Instagram, chat with the folks in your Facebook groups, but all of these are limited to the audience you already have. You could also pay for advertising, but that’s an expense that not everyone is willing to take on.
So we’re stuck between a rock and a hard place. It’s either communicate with the people who already know your brand or pay big bucks to reach new audiences.
Except savvy entrepreneurs like you won’t stop there and are going to look for a better option.
…and that option is PR.
When your brand is featured in the media, you get access to that publication’s audience. And since earned media is earned and not bought, you’re not on the hook to pay for it either.
Sounds pretty good, right?
The only thing that is standing in the way of getting featured in lots of publications is knowing how to communicate with the media. That’s why I’ve launched this free media training video series!

Need a little more convincing? Here are four reasons you should start learning PR for your business today.
1. PR is cheap
Let’s dig into this. There are two avenues for getting your brand published outside of your own network: bought media and earned media.
Bought media is anytime you pay the publication to publish something. That’s advertising, sponsored content, etc.
Earned media is when the publication writes about your brand without being paid. Think of a feature story in your local paper that profiles you as a hometown hero changing the world with your business.
Because earned media is earned, your investment is only the time it takes to write an email to the reporter.
That email is super important to nail, which is a big reason you should register for my free PR training.
2. You can learn how to be your own publicist
Too many small businesses don’t pursue PR because they think they need a PR firm and that can be cost prohibitive.
But just like newsletters, websites, and social media, you can DIY PR too.
Frankly, learning PR is easier than any of those other communication channels. If you learn PR, you’ll learn how the media works and how to best communicate with them. There’s no technical setup or platform to master.
As long as you know how to send an email, you can learn PR.
3. PR will put you in front of eager audiences
When a media outlet chooses to publish something about you, they are betting that it’s something their audience will like.
This means that the people reading, listening, or watching your feature are likely in your target market.
Plus, the reader/listener/watcher is more open to whatever message the reporter has. Unlike advertising where the audience knows the message is biased, PR comes across much more authentic and gives a boost to your credibility. It’s like the reporter is vouching for you, the audience will trust your brand, and that’s where you’ll find eager new customers knocking on your (virtual) door.
4. PR is adapting to the pandemic
With social distancing and shutdowns, media outlets everywhere are working from home and connecting online. So reporters depend on online communication more than ever to get the scoop and you can serve it to them!
I’ve also seen an uptick in reporters working with brands outside their geographic area. For example, before the pandemic, a news segment might only be done in-studio or as far as the reporter was willing to travel. Now, since everything is done online, there’s no limit.
Now is definitely the time to take advantage of these changes in the industry. You can reach more reporters, publications, and audiences than ever before.
